Fostering…. Chicken Soup for the Soul.

How do you fill a void in your heart where your pup had made his home? That is and has been my question for the last 6 months. Wilson has left a HUGE hole in my heart and although he will never be replaceable, and the search is still very active, I have found that by giving love to other labs in need, I am able to somehow fill a part of the void with my nurturing those in need. Wilson himself was a rescue and he would be proud to know we are helping more of his friends.

Caden was my first foster and will always have a special part of my heart. Caden is a lab mix who came to me thru my friend Ann who was contacted thru Lab Rescue of the Labroador Retriever Club of the Potomac. Caden came in as a stray and was seriously underweight and HW positive. He underwent treatment for HW and I had to feed him 3 times a day in order to start a healthy weight gain. Caden is such a love bug. He loved to cuddle up on the sofa while we watched movies. I took him to the Mid Atlantic Land Rover rally where he got to play in the woods, camp and meet other pups. Caden was ultimately adopted by Ann and is living a happy life with her other 2 dogs and her boyfriend’s 3. A pack of 6 makes for a very active and playful environment for him, full of love and adventure!

Sam is my second foster. My friend Jane, who works with Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond and I went to pick him up as he was an owner turn in. Sam is VERY overweight, so I immediately put him on a green bean diet. Sam has become my shadow. He follows me wherever I go and has a very silly and almost mischievous personality for a 6 year old lab. Sam is as gentle as can be and a quick learner. He is excellent on and off a leash. Sam has already lost almost 7 pounds in the last few weeks that he’s been with me.

I am fairly confident that Sam will find a wonderful forever home for the holidays and I will continue to foster Labs in transition. It is very difficult not to fall in love with these guys and quite honestly, I would love to keep each and every one of them… but then I think about all the other labs out there that need a foster. If I adopt now, I couldn’t keep on helping, and although it is hard to give them up, I know in my heart that these pups will ultimately find the love and happiness they deserve in their new forever homes.

Wilson is and will always remain my Number One and I will never give up on finding him. Each pup has his or her own personality and I have been blessed with getting to know them for who they are. They are gifts. They make me laugh. They give me hope. They share such a tremendous amount of love with me. They help to fill the void.

Words to Lean on...

“Hi I posted yesterday on the lost and found site that we found Luke about 2 miles away from our home. For those who don't know Luke has been missing for 2 months. Something that I thought would never happen has. I guess it just goes to show that you have to keep hoping. I have grown attached to the lost pets on CL over the past 2 months. I want more than anything for Wilson, Petey, the dog lost on Parham/Patterson to be reunited with their owners. I want to also thank everyone for letting me be the crazy cat lady and post day after day since May 26th.. I am praying for all of the lost pets!!!!”

“I'm sorry I don't have any information on Wilson but just wanted to let you know that I am praying for his safe return. Goochland County will be starting school in a week or two, someone will see him early in the morning while waiting for a bus or getting their child off to school. I have friends in the Goochland/Hadensville area and they are also keeping a look out for your boy as well.God Bless you and he will be home soon!”

“I am sorry that I am leaving town tomorrow or I would come help. I do hope you find Wilson and don't give up. It took nine weeks and I finally found my baby. My thought will be with you.”

Hi Christina,
I'm a craigslister that has been following your search for Wilson for weeks now. I wish that I could help search but I am disabled and unable to do so. I've been praying for you and Wilson because I can tell how much you love him. Don't give up hope...I lost one of our cats two years ago ..she was found 15 miles from our home so follow every lead. I've downloaded your flyer from the blog spot and will have friends and relative post them everywhere we can. - Teresa

I have seen your ads and I wish I had info but I just couldn't help emailing, I know you are so stressed and worried. My Rottie got away from us one time and was missing for 3 days, it was horrible. I just wanted you to know - one pet lover to another - that honest and caring people are seeing this ad and those of us that know your plight are praying for the safe return of Wilson, he is beautiful and much loved. I just wanted you to know that some people are out there and feel your pain and our thoughts are with you!
Take care,
Tina

Prayer to St. Anthony

St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and charity for his creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I ask you to obtain for me the favors that I seek: to find Wilson.

The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles.

O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was full of sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Infant Jesus, who loved to be held in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever by yours.
