How to Catch a Lost Dog

Do not expect a dog that has been away from human contact to act like he used to when you come across him. He may act aloof, giving the impression that he is a stray, a feral dog, abused, or aggressive. He may be fearful, and will not come even if it is his owner who is calling. Here
are some tips if you come across a lost dog (hopefully Wilson!)...

Never chase the dog. Move away from him, calling him to follow.

Stay calm when you see the dog, and call him in a soft voice. You may want to try using phrases he gets excited about: Want to go for a ride? Want a cookie? Where's your ball?

Sit or kneel. The dog will probably be frightened, and these postures are less threatening. Open your arms when you call.

Try to face slightly away from the dog. Let him approach you from another direction.

Of course, the first thing to do is CALL ME IMMEDIATELY if it looks like Wilson...

Lure him in with meat... mmm...raw,yummy meat or some smelly treats.

Words to Lean on...

“Hi I posted yesterday on the lost and found site that we found Luke about 2 miles away from our home. For those who don't know Luke has been missing for 2 months. Something that I thought would never happen has. I guess it just goes to show that you have to keep hoping. I have grown attached to the lost pets on CL over the past 2 months. I want more than anything for Wilson, Petey, the dog lost on Parham/Patterson to be reunited with their owners. I want to also thank everyone for letting me be the crazy cat lady and post day after day since May 26th.. I am praying for all of the lost pets!!!!”

“I'm sorry I don't have any information on Wilson but just wanted to let you know that I am praying for his safe return. Goochland County will be starting school in a week or two, someone will see him early in the morning while waiting for a bus or getting their child off to school. I have friends in the Goochland/Hadensville area and they are also keeping a look out for your boy as well.God Bless you and he will be home soon!”

“I am sorry that I am leaving town tomorrow or I would come help. I do hope you find Wilson and don't give up. It took nine weeks and I finally found my baby. My thought will be with you.”

Hi Christina,
I'm a craigslister that has been following your search for Wilson for weeks now. I wish that I could help search but I am disabled and unable to do so. I've been praying for you and Wilson because I can tell how much you love him. Don't give up hope...I lost one of our cats two years ago ..she was found 15 miles from our home so follow every lead. I've downloaded your flyer from the blog spot and will have friends and relative post them everywhere we can. - Teresa

I have seen your ads and I wish I had info but I just couldn't help emailing, I know you are so stressed and worried. My Rottie got away from us one time and was missing for 3 days, it was horrible. I just wanted you to know - one pet lover to another - that honest and caring people are seeing this ad and those of us that know your plight are praying for the safe return of Wilson, he is beautiful and much loved. I just wanted you to know that some people are out there and feel your pain and our thoughts are with you!
Take care,
Tina

Prayer to St. Anthony

St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and charity for his creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I ask you to obtain for me the favors that I seek: to find Wilson.

The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles.

O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was full of sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Infant Jesus, who loved to be held in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever by yours.
